The
Aim
from the outset, was to build the absolute best speaker in a micro-monitor
form. With dimensions of 15cm x 25cm x 20cm (WHD), the Kensai
is a true bookshelf sized design, notably smaller than the average
'small' loudspeaker, and quite happy being placed close to a wall.
The
Kensai reveal the
nuance of every sound, from a delicate intake of breath to the
raw rasp of a horn. They deliver music that moves you, with performances
that touch the emotions and set your feet tapping.
The
Cabinet is made in the UK, and the entire speaker
hand assembled start to finish by the designer himself. The side
panels are available in solid Beech; a beautiful light coloured
wood with a warm tint, or solid Black Walnut; an attractive darker
wood with distinctive grain. The middle section of the enclosure
is covered with high quality simulated leather, available in a
choice of black or white.
The
Technology is without peer. The Kensai treble
unit is an isoplanar ribbon design with an effective area approximately
2.5x greater than a conventional 1" dome. This large area
provides impressive dynamics, and allows a low crossover frequency
for superior phase and dispersion. It incorporates an acoustic
lens that widens high frequency dispersion, giving a natural,
airy top-end and wide sweet spot.
The
12cm mid/woofer cone is made from surface treated magnesium that
is incredibly stiff and light. The motor uses copper Faraday rings
to reduce distortion, and a solid copper phase plug for low power
compression. Combine this with 9mm peak coil travel and you have
a mid/woofer that plays loud and clean, with impeccable speed
and dynamics that keep pace with the ribbon treble unit.
The
crossover is hard-wired, perfectly phase-aligned, uses poly film
capacitors, low resistance inductors, and is covered with butyl
rubber compound to reduce the effects of vibration. The port is
an aperiodicly damped slot resonator that provides some of the
deepest, tightest bass you will hear from a speaker of this size. |
