The Kensai MKII is a progression of the highly regarded original handmade Kensai 'super-baby'. Combining the same superb isoplanar ribbon tweeter with a new woofer system, crossover and cabinet, the Kensai MII delivers clarity and coherence to a degree rarely heard.

The ribbon tweeter uses isoplanar technology which allows push-pull drive of the diaphragm in a similar way that an electrostatic speakers works, producing exceptionally low distortion, and unrivalled top-end clarity. It has a very large area compared with other ribbons, so a low crossover point can be used, allowing the sound from the woofer and ribbon to glue together far better than a standard design. Finally, it also incorporates an acoustic lens to widen high frequency dispersion.

The woofer is a state of the art, natural paper-pulp cone powered by an advanced neodymium motor. This new 4" woofer provides additional sensitivity over the original Kensai, meaning a 20% lower power requirement for the same sound level. Copper faraday-rings reduce distortion and the basket is streamlined to cause fewer reflections. High frequency cone break-up is also considerably reduced, meaning the sound stays clean even when pushed.

The crossover, as in the original Kensai, is phase aligned and utilises high quality components. The crossover frequency has been lowered from 2.2KHz to 1.9KHz further improving driver integration and dispersion. The new network also provides a more gentle and linear impedance load to the amplifier, helping to make the Kensai MKII suitable for valve amps with >20 watts.

The Cabinet has undergone extensive redesign. Following BBC research the side panels are now made from Birch plywood with sorbothane damping. This material combination has faster energy decay than any other typical material, including solid timber. The entire structure was then analyzed with an accelerometer to map the modal patterns and extensive internal bracing placed to minimize unwanted resonance. Finally, the construction is angled backwards to provide physical time-alignment.

Made by hand in England, the Kensai MKII is a product of true craftsmanship. Every aspect is carefully considered from the assembly of crossover electronics to cabinet joinery. Each pair is built by designer himself from start to finish.
